London-based Etc Venues has been ranked top of a league table of UK meetings venues compiled by Business Development Research Consultants (BDRC).

Etc Venues was granted an overall performance score of 82% in BDRC's Venue Verdict for the third quarter of 2009, based on almost 250 responses from event planners and buyers.

Etc Venues, which has six properties in central London and one in Birmingham, is up against the Sundial Group to clinch the full-year number one spot.

Etc Venues head of business development Brendon Smith said: "It has not been an easy year but we have invested in our facilities, opened up more space and are on course to match last year's financial results. Some clients have chosen to run events in-house this year but we have picked up other clients that might have previously used rural venues elsewhere in the country, for example."

BDRC director of hotels and hospitality Matt Costin said perceptions of service quality across the board had risen to a record high in the third quarter.
