Marriott's UK and Irish operation is to plant 250 woodland trees as part of the hotel chain's ‘Global Customer Appreciation Week' initiative, supporting The Woodland Trust.

"At the centre of Marriott's environmental commitment is our ‘Spirit to Preserve' strategy for reducing our environmental footprint," said Marriott international social responsibility senior director Barbara Powell. "Our UK and Ireland hotels contribution to the Woodland Trust is a brilliant example".

Much of this week's activity have centred on London's Renaissance Heathrow hotel, including a customer appreciation breakfast for thirty clients and a tree planting ceremony with Mark Satterfield, Marriott area vice president (UK South and Ireland).

The tree planting will take place on the 253-hectare Hucking Estate in Kent, one of over 1000 woods taken care of by The Woodland Trust.
