The inaugural Event UK show attracted 4,041 visitors, reflecting a 7% rise in ‘pure' visitors, according to unaudited figures from organiser CMPi.
Event UK event director Duncan Reid said: "In terms of visitor figures, we were up 7% on ‘pure' visitors (excluding The National Incentive Show visitors), which is a great achievement for a new show. Total attendance this year hit 4,041." The figures are subject to audit.
The show was rebranded from the National Venue Show and condensed into a two-day event. It was held on 16-17 September at NEC Birmingham.
However, the unaudited visitor figures fell short of the 6,000 that Event UK senior marketing manager Kate Disley told C&IT earlier this month that CMPi was targeting. She also added that last year, the National Venue Show attracted 5,000 visitors.
Reid said the target of 6,000 included visitors who would cross over from the National Incentive Show. However, fewer than expected crossed over, said Reid. He also maintained that visitor numbers were unaffected by the Square Meal show, which took place at the same time as Event UK.
"We feel we have created a product that can grow in the long term and bring people back in 2009 and beyond as we improve the event in line with Confex Group standards," he said.
The event attracted more than 300 exhibitors, and exhibitor bookings are up 21% for next year's show, according to CMPi. It claims that "the figures place Event UK as the biggest show outside London".
