Matt Hudson has been promoted from his previous role as general manager at Northern Racing’s Brighton racecourse.
The company, which operates nine courses including Chepstow and Uttoxeter, has created the role in response to the growth of its non-racing activities. Income from these business lines increased by 9% to 23% of total earnings between 2006 and 2007.
Hudson predicted events and venue hire would become increasingly important for the racecourse owner. He said: “There’s only so many racing days available, so in terms of a racing product we’ve probably expanded as far as we can. But in terms of a non-racing venue, the potential is enormous.”
