Winners announced for IMEX Awards 2016

The winners of the IMEX Academy Awards and Industry Awards were announced last night (20 April) at the annual Gala Dinner at Sheraton Frankfurt Airport Hotel.

A total of 14 awards were handed out, including the Academy Awards, which recognise individuals in different regions for outstanding service to the meetings and incentive travel industry. 

The Academy Award for Europe was presented to Eric Bakerman, marketing manager, meetings and conventions at NBTC Holland Marketing, who co-founded the Strategic Alliance of the National Convention Bureaux of Europe and has served on the board of several association chapters, including GMIC and ICCA.

The Academy Award for the Africa Middle East region was presented to Amanda Kotze-Nhlapo, chief convention bureau officer at South African Tourism. 

The winner of the Academy Award for the Asia Pacific region was Geoff Donaghy, CEO, International Convention Centre Sydney and group director convention centres, AEG Ogden.

Elliott Ferguson, president and CEO of Destination DC, won the Academy Award for the Americas.

The JMIC Unity Award 2014: Anita Pires, partner at Pires & Associados Assessoria

IAPCO Innovation Award: Yoshihito Takahashi, IT director at Congress Corporation

PCMA Global Meetings Executive of the Year: Janet Tan-Collis, chief executive at East West Planners Pte Ltd

IAEE International Organiser Award: Edward Krause, president and CEO, E.J. Krause & Associates

Site Master Motivator Award: Carolyn Dow, managing director of The Dow Consultancy 

MPI Foundation Student Scholarship Award: Karolina Widawska from the University of Silesia

DMAI Destination Marketing Humanitarian Award: Elliott Ferguson, president and CEO of Destination DC
