On Thursday (27 August), C&IT joined the BI Worldwide team at Raymond Blanc’s two Michelin-starred Belmond Le Manoir aux Quat'Saisons for a food-and-beverage workshop, part of the agency’s new training programme for staff. Project managers learned '6-star excellence' from the best in the world of food and beverage, listening to professionals speak on the difference between ‘value’ and ‘cost’ and giving advice on fulfilling clients’ wants and needs through the culinary experience. The day included a wine tasting and a five-course meal.
This week's top five stories:
Leading Hotels of the World held its annual London Summer Weekend event on Friday and Saturday (21-22 August). C&IT joined event agencies from around the UK, including BI Worldwide, Absolute Corporate Events and Zibrant, at the event, which saw Leading Hotels of the World team up with Wildgoose Events and London & Partners to deliver a city-wide treasure hunt.
In competing teams, the agencies made their way around the capital with iPads, visiting each of the seven participating hotels, which included The Ritz, The Landmark, The Langham, Hotel Cafe Royal, Browns Hotel, The Milestone, Baglioni Hotel London and One Aldwych Hotel. Challenges awaited at each hotel, giving teams the chance to score points and jump to the top of the leader board. Activities included everything from re-enacting a scene from 'Notting Hill' at The Ritz to striking an imaginative yoga pose in the Hotel Cafe Royal spa. The event finished with a gala dinner at Banqueting House, with a four-course meal supplied by Food by Dish and a theatrical 'masque ball' theme assisted by Fisher Productions.
At the weekend, a team of 11 from Capita Travel and Events’ Swindon office completed a 55-mile trek to raise over £2,000 for children’s’ cancer charity, CLIC Sargent. The team set off from Chinnor, South Oxfordshire at 8am on Saturday, and arrived at its final destination, Avebury in Wiltshire, at 3pm on the Sunday. They weathered 30-degree heat, humidity, downpours and hail in a challenging trek across a section of the Ridgeway National Trail, a track following an ancient Ridgeway and footpaths from Overton Hill, near Avebury and through the Chiltern Hills to Ivinghoe Beacon in Buckinghamshire.
