Sligo's historic Markree Castle sold

Markree Castle, a Victorian Gothic Revival castle in Co. Sligo, Ireland, which has been used as a hotel and events venue, has been sold and will undergo extensive renovations.

Luxury Manor House Hotels, owned by the Corscadden family, has purchased the castle and will begin a €5m restoration programme with the aim of reopening the venue in spring 2016. The family now owns four castle hotel properties, one in each province of Ireland.

Howard Corscadden said: "We are delighted to add this incredible property to the Corscadden collection of Irish castles. We are about to embark on a €5m restoration project which will be carried out in three phases over three years.  The first phase will concentrate on the public areas and a large number of the hotel’s 30 bedrooms and will be completed before we re-open in March of next year."
