This week saw C&IT’s own Jack Carter team up with sister title Event’s Katie Deighton and ExCel London’s Lucy Merritt to take on UK event agencies for the venue’s twist on The Great British Bake Off. The event which took place this morning (27 March), included eight teams with agencies such as Concerto Live, drp and GPJ taking part. ExCel is using the event to build relationships with key agency partners and showcase some of its new spaces. The morning kicked off with a cupcake challenge against the clock followed by cheese scones.

Meanwhile, celebrities including Katie Price, Jeff Brazier, Tamsin Outhwaite, Nicola McLean and Angela Griffin were in attendance as Thorpe Park previewed its new I’m a Celebrity Get Me Out of Here… maze yesterday (26 March). A new teambuilding experience for corporate events inspired by the ITV series, the attraction features Bush Tucker Trials and has been fitted with special effects including a vibrating bridge walkway and multi-sensory ‘leg ticklers’ that simulate the feeling of being covered head-to-toe in bugs.
Gleneagles Hotel went on the road this week, holding a Scottish Splendour event at The Good Housekeeping Institute in London. Delegates got to hear all about the new Gleneagles Arena from head of events Watson Bell over a canapé and cocktail lunch.
In partnership with Microsoft, Superfast West Yorkshire Digital Skills Fund’s ‘Big Social Media Show’ arrived at Well Met on Monday (9 March). Held at Leeds Beckett’s Grade II listed James Graham Building, the event was attended by over 300 delegates and included key note speeches from Tom Riordan, Chief Executive of Leeds City Council, and Daniel Langton, Senior Business Development Manager at SMS&P Microsoft UK.
