IHG to open Johannesburg property

InterContinental Hotel Group (IHG) is opening a third Holiday Inn in South Africa, on the former site of the Airport Grand Hotel & Conference Centre.

The 151-room Holiday Inn Johannesburg, expected to open in the first quarter of this year, will be located close to the airport and will provide a range of meeting rooms and function space. This will be IHG's third Holiday Inn hotel in South Africa.

InterContinental Hotels Group has signed a franchise agreement with Choice Decisions 65 for the property. Pascal Gauvin, chief operating officer, India, Middle East and Africa, IHG, said: "Holiday Inn has enjoyed a long and successful history in South Africa since we launched our first hotel in Johannesburg in 1971. Today South Africa ranks amongst the top business events and leisure travel destinations in Africa and we are confident in the market’s long-term growth potential."
