The 442-room luxury hotel will be the first of two new properties to open under the brand in Asia, with a property in Beijing also set to open later this year.

Guoman Shanghai will be located in the Putuo district, and will offer Eastern-inspired restaurants and bars, a grand ballroom with capacity for 500 delegates, as well as 11 conference rooms and a spa and fitness centre.

Guoman Hotels chief operating officer international Sanjay Nijhawan said: "The opening of Guoman Shanghai is the crucial first phase in our ongoing strategic growth across Asia in the coming years.  We're very confident in the strength of the group and its focus on a stylish, unique guest experience."

The Guoman collection also includes the Royal Horseguards, the Cumberland, the Tower and Charing Cross hotels in London.
