The Brockholes Visitor and Conference Centre is set to open at the Brockholes Nature Reserve site in 2011.
It will offer facilities for 150 delegates, a break-out room and team-building activities.
Facilities will also include an on-site café and restaurant serving local produce.
Sustainable events
The centre’s sustainable credentials will include energy conservation, renewable technology, reduced water usage, composting and recycling.
The Northwest Regional Development Agency (NWDA) chief executive Stephen Broomhead said: "The Brockholes investment is an excellent example of how the rich natural environment of the Northwest can be harnessed to promote positive economic growth for the region."
Construction of a pontoon, which will float on the site’s largest lake and support the venue’s five buildings, was completed this week and event planners can now book hard-hat tours of the venue for January 2011.
